On International Women’s Day, Priyanka Parshurami from Professional Beauty India interviews Ravina Jain, Founder, The Skin Story.
The Indian beauty industry is now buzzing with vibrant and promising women entrepreneurs. Through their innovative ideas, products and strategies these budding entrepreneurs are helping the Indian beauty industry grow leaps and bounds. Professional Beauty India’s Priyanka Parshurami conducted an exclusive interview with one such aspiring entrepreneur, Ravina Jain, Founder, The Skin Story.
Here’s the excerpt from the interview:
You started your career as an entrepreneur in 2015 with a fashion accessory brand, followed by another successful stint with a wellness and nutrition brand in 2018. So, what motivated you to leave it behind and enter the beauty and skin industry?
I always had the knack for fashion, nutrition & holistic wellness. So, when I started street hopper, a fashion accessory brand, I wanted to understand how the ecommerce, selling & distribution works. It was a pilot scale of business to understand the market dynamics.
When I entered the nutrition space, with Bodyfirst, I understood nutrition is 100 per cent needed. But alongside nutrition a lot of things are needed to build a holistic approach towards wellness. As a result worked on launching skincare & beard care ranges.
Why the name ‘The Skin Story’?
The name ‘The Skin Story’ suggests that the brand is focused on the skin and the unique tales of each individual’s skin. Overall, the brand name is intended to convey the brand’s focus on individuality, simplicity, and storytelling, all of which may appeal to customers who are looking for a skincare brand that understands and celebrates their unique skin story.
What makes skin story stand out from his competitors in the skincare industry?
We have unique formulations. And we launch products with guaranteed results. We also have manufacturing and R&D support. Our brand vision is to be there in each & every home; we want to create products that build trust. I do not launch anything which I would not use & which is not serving any purpose.
Can you shed some light on your professional range?
It’s not range is the next big thing we are looking at. Awareness about taking care of their skin and hair is on an increasing trend. Hence planning to launch a holistic professional range for all customers. From hair spa to facial we would like to focus on a holistic beauty regime. We are already selling in two salons with great results. Our hair care, shampoo & conditioners are used post keratin treatments. And for Spa we have our masks and everything which is used.
What are your expansion plans with The Skin Story?
Our plan is to expand the product line; it is one by introducing new products or product lines that cater to different skin types, concerns, or preferences.
Secondly we are also considering geographic expansion by targeting new geographic markets & introducing our Professional range in the market. This could involve establishing a physical presence in new regions or developing a strategy to sell and distribute products internationally.
Another way to expand is by investing in marketing and branding efforts to increase brand awareness, holistic wellness and customer loyalty. Lastly by incorporating sustainable practices throughout its business operations, the brand will appeal to customers who are increasingly conscious of the environmental impact of their purchasing decisions.
On the occasion of women’s day what message would you like to share with the budding women entrepreneurs?
On the occasion of International Women’s Day, my message to budding women entrepreneurs would be to never give up on their dreams and to keep pushing forward despite any obstacles they may face.
It’s important to believe in yourself and your ideas, even if others may doubt you, just keep on working resiliently and be passionate towards whatever sector you are.
Surround yourself with a supportive network of mentors, peers and allies who can offer guidance, feedback and encouragement along the way. Don’t be afraid to ask for help and seek out resources and opportunities that can help you grow and develop your business.
Stay focused on your goals, but also remain flexible and adaptable to changes in the market and industry. Embrace failure as a learning opportunity and use it to refine your approach and strategies.
Above all, remember that your gender should never hold you back from pursuing your entrepreneurial aspirations. You have just as much potential and capability as anyone else, and your unique perspective and experiences can be a valuable asset in creating innovative solutions and driving positive change in your community and beyond.
Where do you see the brand 5 years from now?
In five years, I see my brand as a leader in the industry, known for its innovative products and commitment to sustainability. We will have expanded our product line to include a range of skincare solutions for all skin types and concerns. I want to have concern related products and also holistic approach towards wellness and beauty with a focus on vegan & cruelty free ingredients.
Our brand will have a strong presence both online and in retail stores, with a loyal customer base that values the quality and effectiveness of our products. We will have established partnerships with influencers and beauty experts to promote our brand and share our message of self-care and self-love.
We will have also implemented sustainable practices throughout our business operations, including PCR packaging giving back to our community and the environment through various initiatives.
Overall, I see our brand as a successful and respected player in the skincare industry, making a positive impact on the lives of our customers and the world around us.

Korean skincare: Get glossy glass skin with these natural steps
While there maybe hundreds of tutorials to help you get glass skin, but if you’re looking for an all natural approach to it, we have got your covered!
If we have to name one Korean beauty trend that has taken the world by storm, the top spot goes to the ‘glass skin’ trend. If you’re someone who loves Korean dramas, you know we’re talking about the oh-so-effortless glow on the skin of Korean stars. The aim is to make our skin look dewy and luminous like a piece of glass. Hence, the name glass skin!
The glass skin looks poreless, luminous and glossy with a natural sheen. That being said, the see-through healthy flushed appearance of glass skin really comes from within.
Skin expert Ravina Jain spoke to HealthShots about easy ways you can achieve a glossier and healthy skin.
“Achieving perfect glass skin is every woman’s dream. All it takes is the collective superpower of conscious diet and skin care! Incorporating healthy fats into one’s diet such as walnuts and avocados are a must for that dewy finish. After all, EFAs (Essential Fatty Acids) are termed essential for a reason,” says Jain.
“It is also extremely important to stay hydrated to flush out harmful toxins and rejuvenate the skin. It’s always a great idea to add lots of fruits in one’s diet, to get a healthy dose of antioxidants that will protect the skin from cellular damage,” adds Jain, who is also the founder and CEO of The Skin Story.
Achieving the glass skin look needs more than a skin care regimen. A healthy and balanced lifestyle is a prerequisite for the healthiest appearance of your skin without makeup.
Ways to get glass skin:
Load up on healthy fats
While you must be trying to cut down on your fat consumption, leaving out on sources of good fat isn’t a good idea! Eating food rich in poly and monounsaturated fats can make your skin supple and hydrated. The healthy fat helps our skin barrier to improve thus, giving that glossy glass skin appearance. Include food items like eggs, fish, nuts and avocados in your diet.
2. Eat more fruits and veggies
That being said a hundred times, you should try to up your consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables if you really love your skin. Fruits and leafy green veggies are rich in antioxidants that help your body cope up with oxidative stress. They also make your skin immune to free radicals. Next time you go grocery shopping, fill up your cart with fresh fruits like oranges, grapes and vegetables like spinach and kale.
3. Hydrate like a potted plant
The most advocated tip for a clear skin by moms and even celebrities is to drink plenty of water. Well, it really helps if you wish to achieve glass skin. It not only detoxifies your body, but also staves off dry, acne prone and textured skin. Water keeps your skin hydrated, refreshed and maintains elasticity. If you hydrate yourself well, your skin tends to heal the scars and minor cuts and burns better. Drinking water may also help delay the signs of aging. Here’s your sign to sip on a glass of water as you read on!
4. Get some shut eye
Sleeping may give your body a chance to revive and heal from the daily wear and tear. Your skin, the largest organ of your body, may experience the same as you sleep. Hence, the reason it is called ‘beauty sleep’. It is known that your skin produces collagen as you sleep which helps in maintaining skin’s elasticity giving it that plump appearance. Try to shut down your favourite series on time, follow a good skincare regime and dream about gorgeous glass skin! It’s that easy to achieve.
These steps are easy to follow and will give you that gleam from within. Other than lifestyle and dietary changes, you can get a sparkling glow by following a skincare regime. The skincare ingredients you need for this are accustomed to achieving a glass skin.
Adding to the ways you can get glass skin, Jain says, “When it comes to skin care, the key is to build your own skin story. This can include pampering your skin with the best hydrating masks out there, for the perfect finish. Hydrating and pore minimizing toners can also work like magic. They can aid in cleansing the skin deeply and lending a unique and fresh glow.”
Step-by-step skincare guide to get glass skin:
The secret to getting perfection on your skin is by starting off with a clean canvas. Choose a mild cleanser like a cleansing balm or a hydrating cleanser to avoid stripping off your skin’s natural oil. Wet your skin and rub a dime sized amount on your skin. Using a microfibre towel, clean the emulsified cleanser, wash your face and pat dry.
Exfoliating your skin helps in getting rid of the dead skin cells piling up on the skin surface. Scrubbing them off using a physical scrub or a mild skin acid-based exfoliant can help unclog your pores and remove those pesky blackheads. The removal of the top layer of your skin may help unveil the new radiant looking skin which is a great start to achieving a glass skin look.
Spritz on a toner on your facial skin gives it a moist appearance but also regulates the pH of your skin. As the name suggests, a toner tones your skin by minimizing your pores for that poreless skin finish you are aiming for.
4.Try an essence or a serum
If you’re new to the skincare world, there are a number of hydrating essences available in the market. From basic hyaluronic to bizarre snail mucin, essence can give that hydrated look to your skin. An essence may let other products seep in better. If not essence, try a hydrating serum. It energizes your skin and gives it a plump appearance which is a basic for glass skin.
For a glass skin look, you need to look for a moisturizer that gives a luminous skin finish. A moisturizer that gives your skin an instant hydration boost is the right pick. Something that doesn’t almost disappear from your skin can help you achieve that glossy glow. Some experts rave about layering moisturizers to create a glass skin effect by using a gel based hydrator topped with a cream for that added sheen.
6. Facial oils
Well, Korean women like to give all the attention to their skin and leave the eyes natural. Use a facial oil if your skin allows it. If you’re somebody who has oily to combination skin, try using a facial oil only on the high points of your face like you use a makeup highlighter. Place a few drops of an oil on your cheekbones, bridge of your nose and cupid bow and dab it all in for that glistening effect.
7. Pucker up
Lip care has a special place in Korean beauty because pink petals-like delicate lips are the USP of Korean stars. To achieve that look, start by applying your favourite lip balm or even ghee from your kitchen pantry. Rub and massage it in. Now, using a wet towel, rub your lips in circular motions to remove all the dead skin around your mouth area. Apply a beetroot tint in the centre of your lips and seal with lip butter.
With these skincare steps followed carefully, you can officially achieve a glass-like flawless skin!
The last word
However, no matter how badly we want our skin to behave, it breaks out, stays textured and looks faded sometimes. Well, skin is supposed to look like skin- a protective layer on your body! Do not fall for the retouched photos you see on social media and compare your skin with it. Always remember, beauty is personal. You can define it as you like.
Following a good skincare routine, drinking enough water, applying sunscreen and eating a nutritious diet is proven to work wonders on your skin!
